Patient information: Female in her mid 60s presented with severe capsular contractures 25 years after insertion of silicone breast implants. Her breasts were now rock hard and painful and she was “now over them”. A breast lift was discussed but Dr. Bunkis explained that it was impossible in advance to predict how much the skin would shrink and that it was best to first remove the implants and to do the lift later if it was desirable to do so. The patient concurred and she received a capsulectomy and removed her implants. A year later, her skin had retracted and she was quite pleased with her result and did not require a breast lift. She was much smaller than before the implant removal and had to buy some new clothes but was very happy with the results because her breasts now felt natural and did not hurt.
